Because God is the Absolute Truth | rough (2023)

To say that God is truth, everything He is, says and does must be true from every angle. Every quality of character He possesses must be consistently true at all times and in all cases. For example, a rock, no matter what you call it, is a rock.

This is especially true of the Ten Commandments. In Exodus 20:1-17 you can read all 10 commandments. Every command applies to all people in all places at all times. For example, stealing from one's neighbor is wrong in all cases and at all times. The phrase carved in stone describes any idea that embodies the truest truth and refers to God himself writing the Ten Commandments on two tablets of stone.

God is absolute truth. Its truth does not depend on a set of circumstances. The truth applies to all people everywhere and at all times, regardless of the form of government under which they live. At John 14:6 Jesus said to him: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father except through me”.

Shirley Hinckson and her husband Bud traveled throughout Eastern Europe and Russia during the years when the Communist Party ruled these countries. First, Shirley promised herself that she would never lie about her work. She put her faith in Christ, her source of ultimate truth.

Shirley knew that lies deceive people, even those with whom you someday wish to share the gospel. People who lie, even for a good reason, like hiding their Christian work, face consequences. If they lied and found out, they could have been forced to leave the country.

She also knew in John 8 that Jesus promised those who trust in Him that they would know the truth and the truth would set them free. She stuck to her belief that she was telling the truth.

In other words, Shirley wasn't comfortable with covering up Bud's true identity. Because God always tells the truth, Shirley chose to be honest about her work and her relationship with God when answering her language teacher's questions. The teacher responded by inviting Bud and Shirley to lunch so they could meet Tanya's father, a man who wrote speeches for Yeltsin. This opened a wide door of service for them.

"Every time I stood up and told the exact truth," Shirley said, "God stood up for me and I had no problems." Ultimately, God uses truth to get people to trust Him. Both Shirley and Bud learned to trust that God is absolute truth.
